Annikki loves to be outdoors during the spring. Seeing all the new plants coming up through the old, decayed leaves helps her to understand nature better. Everything is cyclical. Each season feeding into the one after it. It’s true that Annikki doesn’t really enjoy the cold, dark, snowy winter months. But it gives her hope to know that it will end and that the melting snow will feed the decay that feeds the beautiful plants and flowers in the spring. Annikki always starts her plants early. Inside, under grow-lights. She wonders if the plants ever get confused. Confused in that they are growing in a safe, warm environment, while there’s still snow on the ground outside. During the winter. Annikki feeds the birds and other woodland creatures that may struggle to find good food during the winter. They too help her to get through the “long dark”.
