Day of the Dead Pin #10

The Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd. It’s a wonderful celebration of life and honoring those people who came before you. Sugar skulls (Calaveras de Azucar) are elaborately decorated pieces of confectionary. Typical motifs are of living things and the bounty of nature; flowers, fruits, and vines. The butterfly, a symbol for the soul is also found on sugar skulls.

While living in New Mexico, I came to love the Day of the Dead celebrations. The vivid colours and motifs have become interwoven into my own personal artistic style. The skull pins I’ve created here are each one-of-a-kind. With no two alike. These pins are lightweight too, so they won’t pull at clothing fabric when worn.
