Ivy’s parents named all five of their children plant names. Ivy has sisters named Laurel, Holly, Rose and Olive. It would have been strange if all five of the sisters hadn’t been named plant names. Both of Ivy’s parents are botanists! Ivy doesn’t think that she will go into botany, or any other science. She loves ancient history. Recently, she began reading about Mesopotamia and she’s fascinated! To get to read things that were written thousands of years ago! Wow! Sometimes, what the archeologists find and read are kind of funny, Ivy thinks. Letters to people complaining about poor service, or that they were cheated on the price of animals purchased. They seem like such trivial things. But they must have meant a great deal to the people who wrote them. Ivy is learning to read cuneiform, and it’s hard!
