Myrtle is still trying to get used to the new house her family moved into last summer. It’s so much bigger than their old apartment. Myrtle gets her own room and everything! No more sharing a room with her baby brother brother Kyle. Myrtle can do her homework at a desk in her room with the door closed and everything! Myrtle loves her desk. She got to pick it out at the second-hand store. She and her mom painted the desk and her chair light blue. Myrtle put cork tiles on the wall in front of her desk with her school schedules and her calendar, so she knows when clarinet practice is. Myrtle has an oral book report due today. She and her father read A Wrinkle in Time together. Myrtle loved the book and has created drawings of pivotal scenes in the book to show her classmates. Before leaving the house, Myrtle grabbed her lunch from the refrigerator. She’s allergic to peanuts and an a couple other things, so she takes her lunch to school every day. While standing on her porch, she hears her classmate Charlie laughing and saying “It was right there!” Myrtle wonders what she’s talking about.
